  • APCO and NSA Announce Professional Development Partnership at APCO 2022

Anaheim, CA The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has been selected by the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) to be the preferred training provider for all of NSA’s public safety communications needs. APCO and NSA announced the professional development partnership, which will begin October 1, 2022, during APCO’s 88th Annual Conference & Expo.

The curriculum includes industry-accepted national standards-based training, instructor-level certifications to deliver course instruction in-house, continuing education programs beyond basic training requirements, and advanced management and leadership courses.

“I am pleased to announce this partnership with our friends at the NSA and believe it will help contribute to the advanced professionalism of public safety communications,” said Derek K. Poarch, APCO International CEO and Executive Director. “The benefits of standards-based education and training will positively impact those within the emergency communications center and thereby benefit the public and communities they serve.”

“The future of 9-1-1 systems is coming,” said Jonathan Thompson, CEO and Executive Director of the National Sheriffs’ Association. “This partnership will provide a holistic approach to ensuring our communications experts know what to expect, what to train for and have clear expectations.”

APCO International has trained more than 68,000 students since 2016 using industry standards and best practices. The courses offered through this partnership are full spectrum and start with the newly hired public safety telecommunicator and go up to executive-level director.
