Atlantic Chapter of APCO Awards

GOAL: The Atlantic Chapter of APCO, Inc. is committed to recognizing individuals and groups within our Chapter that have demonstrated outstanding job performance while maintaining the highest standards of personal and professional conduct. To this end, the Atlantic Chapter of APCO, Inc. has established the Atlantic Chapter Public Safety Awards Committee and Awards Program. The Chapter Board of Officers truly feels it is important to honor and recognize the exemplary conduct and performance of our members and their agencies.

ATLANTIC CHAPTER PUBLIC SAFETY AWARDS: Annually, at the Atlantic Chapter Fall Conference, the Atlantic Chapter Awards Committee may present Chapter Public Safety Awards in the following six (6) award categories: Telecommunicator / Dispatcher of the Year, Trainer of the Year, Director of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Team/Group of the Year, Radio Frequency Technologist of the Year.

Award recipients in individual categories will receive a full complimentary conference registration and hotel accommodations. Award recipients of the Team / Group of the Year will receive one (1) full complimentary conference registration and hotel accommodations for one (1) representative of the team/group.

PUBLIC SAFETY AWARDS APPLICATION PROCESS:

Applicants shall be a member of the Atlantic Chapter of APCO, Inc. within the Individual Full, Individual Associate, Group Full, or Group Online classification. and must be employed in the applicable awards category by a public safety agency any time from August 1st to July 31st of the award nominating year. Applicants shall be from one of the following categories described below:

Telecommunicator/Dispatcher of the Year – any person performing the duties of a front-line dispatcher or call taker for any Police, Fire, EMS, or PSAP agency.
Trainer of the Year – any person who develops, schedules, or performs on-the-job, classroom, and/or advanced training for the enhancement of professional knowledge, skill, and ability in a public safety communications agency.
Director of the Year – any person who is responsible for daily direction and operation of the communications center including preparation of an annual budget, program goals, Capital Improvement Plans, development of policies and procedures, employee evaluation, counseling, and discipline.
Supervisor of the Year – any person who participates in the administration and supervision of one or more employees including monitoring employee performance for accuracy, completion, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
Team / Group of the Year – any team, group, shift, or agency of two or more individuals who were involved in the same incident or event.  These members may hold any titles within the public-safety communications center.
Radio Frequency Technologist of the Year – any person who maintains and manages the installation, operation, and maintenance of radio communications systems and equipment, including knowledge of UHF/VHF radios, repeaters, digital/analog microwave, and an extensive network of mobile radios.


Application Time Line:
Award nominations are accepted from March 1st to June 30th of each year.
Awards nominations must be received by the Awards Committee no later than June 30th each year to be reviewed for consideration.  Absolutely no late nominations will be accepted.
Award winners and their current employers will be notified in writing no later than August 1st.
Award winners will be announced and awards given at the Fall Chapter Conference.
Award winners will be posted annually on PSConnect and the Chapter website.
All Award nominations will be automatically submitted for consideration to the APCO International Awards Program by the Atlantic Chapter APCO Awards Committee Chair.


Application Content:
A complete application shall consist of the following:

A completed Atlantic Chapter Public Safety Award Nomination Form.
Please include any other pertinent information you would like the Awards Committee to consider in the nomination.
A letter of recommendation from the nominee's current employer.
In the event an application does not fit the criteria of the category selected, but does meet the criteria of another award category, the Awards chair shall have the discretion of contacting the award nominator to discuss a change in category.
If the award nominator does agree to the category change, the application shall have the category change marked to include the date and time of said change and the name of the award nominator that authorized the change of category. The Chapter President shall be notified, by the Awards Chair, of all changes prior to award nominations being presented to the Executive Board for approval.

All Award nominations shall be submitted online by selecting the award category below and completing the online form by selecting the "submit" button.
Complete all sections of the online application form.
Be prepared to complete the form as you will not be able to save your work.
Print the form before selecting the "Submit" button.
Applications not submitted online will not be considered for any Atlantic Chapter Public Safety Award.
